Dean of Student Success
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, the Dean of Student Success has a primary responsibility for providing leadership, planning, evaluation, development and administrative oversight for the following Counseling areas: General Counseling (Transfer, New/Continuing, Career, Veteran’s, LGBTQ), Multicultural Retention Services, EOPS Counseling, Completion Center and Disabled Student Programs & Services (DSPS) at both the Ocean Campus and Educational Centers. The Dean serves as the liaison and leads the coordination with other College departments in the effective delivery of student success and support services initiatives to ensure that the College fulfills its responsibility in Student Equity and Achievement mandates. The Dean will work collaboratively with all groups across the campus to implement strategies, execution of innovative partnerships that increase student access, services and initiatives to address dis-proportionality in educational success, especially for under-served students.
1. Oversee the District Wide academic counseling department, including, but not limited to, transfer, career, new and continuing counseling, Veteran’s, EOPS counseling, multicultural retention services and disability services. Develop, implement, promote, and maintain programs to increase student success and completion.
2. Responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of student programs and services to targeted academically disadvantaged students.
3. Provide supervision and direction for specific programs and services established to address the dis-proportionality of access and success of particular groups of students to increase completion efforts.
4. Develop, Implement and evaluate follow-up counseling services such as those for students having academic problems, students lacking educational objectives and/or students on academic or progress probation/dismissal.
5. Creates innovative retention and technological programs to enhance and develop services for disproportionately impacted students.
6. Work closely with the Deans of Academic Affairs, department chairs and faculty, in the development and implementation of strategies and technology that improves student success in the classroom.
7. Provide leadership and advocacy to enhance innovation and participation in issues related to areas of assignment of ensure student success; communicate the changing expectations, trends and needs of educational preparation effectively to college personnel.
8. Create and implement a system for tracking students to services received, follow-up services, including administering and evaluating the College’s Early Alert.
9. Collaborate closely with Institutional Research to plan, facilitate, and coordinate research and professional development strategies and activities for Student Equity & Achievement Plans and Student Success that are based on data driven assessment.
10. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess, identify and implement opportunities for improvement in collaboration with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs.
11. In accordance with District policies, contracts, procedures and provides transformational leadership to the areas of responsibility, supervises and evaluates assigned department chairs and classified staff.
12. Provide leadership in the implementation of online educational plan software platforms.
13. Coordinates the District’s response and prepares reports, based on disaggregated data regarding student participation in specific activities contained in the Student Equity and Achievement Plan.
14. In compliance with District guidelines, recommends, implements, and monitors multiple budgets for assigned areas to ensure that the departments/programs remain fiscally sound and operate within their allocated budgets. Monitors project budgets to assure expenditures comply with established budgetary procedures; authorizes expenditures in accordance with local and state regulations; submits required financial reports to the District and State.
15. Maintains an understanding of current ideas, research, technology, and practices pertaining to areas of responsibility through study and participation in professional organizations.
16. Provide leadership with student learning outcomes and program review as they relate to programs and services under areas of responsibility.
17. Prepare annual goals for the programs and services under areas of responsibility.
Participates in planning activities and facilitates completion of goals.
18. Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, organizes own work, sets priorities, and meets critical time deadlines.
19. Collaborate with Employee Relations in resolving employee disciplinary matters; where resolution is not reached at the departmental level, serves as the administrative grievance officer in employee discipline processes.
20. Promote a culture of diversity, equity, access, and student success by fostering innovation and the delivery of high-quality services to our students and community.
21. Serve on a variety of District and state-wide committees as assigned.
22. Anticipates, prevents, and resolves conflicts and problems under areas of supervision.
23. Attend Board of Trustees meetings; make presentations and submit reports and action
items related to areas of responsibility.
24. Perform additional duties as assigned.
1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientations, disabilities, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).
2. Earned Master’s Degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education AND one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

1. Master’s Degree in education, leadership, psychology or counseling or a related field.
2. Three years of increasingly responsible experience in administering, developing, implementing, and evaluating high impact practices that facilitate student access, success and equity.
3. Demonstrated successful experience in first-level administration of faculty, staff, and students.
4. Evidence of experience administering a Student Affair program/department in a multi Center District, responsible for implementation of state and federal regulations in a higher education environment.
5. Demonstrated experience in an administrative or management position in student affairs with responsibility for personnel, budgets, reporting, and operations.
6. Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and regulations pertaining to California Community College systems, including the California Education Code and Title 5.
7. Experience and knowledge of current and emerging technologies related to the Student Affairs environment.
8. Experience with data-driven strategic planning and decision making, accreditation, and student learning outcomes.
Compensation: Total Compensation includes a health insurance plan.
New employees hired on or after January 1, 2014, will contribute 2% of salary to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund (RHCTF).
